Human oversight in Australia

The 'Accountability' principle of Ethics Principles states that those responsible for the different phases of the AI system lifecycle should be identifiable and accountable for the outcomes of the AI systems, and human oversight of AI systems should be enabled. This principle is reflected in Guardrail 5 of the Voluntary AI Safety Standard, which outlines the need for human control or intervention to achieve meaningful human oversight. In addition, Guardrail 7 suggests that oversight includes providing processes for people impacted by AI systems to challenge use or outcomes.
